On January 12, 2018, the Maryland Senate voted to override Governor Hogan’s veto of the General Assembly’s paid leave bill from last year’s legislative session. The paid leave bill (formally known as the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act) is slated to become law in Maryland on February 11th requiring employers with over 14 employees to provide PAID sick and safe leave at a minimum of 1 hour per 30 hours worked and provides for potentially severe damages and penalties for non-compliance.

Failure to keep accurate records of accrued and used leave creates a rebuttable presumption of violation.

Join Maryland Construction Network and PK Law Labor Employment Attorneys David Burkhouse and Adam Konstas to learn about:

  • Calculation of number of employees
  • The law’s requirements and exceptions (including exception for employers in the construction industry that are parties to collective bargaining agreements)
  • Record keeping, notice and retention requirements
  • What employees can use their sick and safe time for and optional employee notice requirements
  • Complaints process, retaliation and potential damages and penalties for non-compliance

A Continental Breakfast is included with your paid registration.

Whether it’s an unexpected earthquake, a terrible house fire, or a devastating hurricane, disasters can strike at any time and can happen to anyone – they don’t discriminate.

Belfor Property Restoration recently conducted a survey to gauge levels of “preparedness” across across the Northeast, South, West, and Midwest, regions. Our survey revealed that 45% of respondents from across all four regions of the U.S. felt that they were not prepared for a disaster, and over half (52%) have taken no proactive steps to strengthen their property as a precaution. Perhaps even more surprisingly, 47% did not have insurance, and of those who did, over a third didn’t know if their insurance covered damages in case of a disaster. Based on these statistics, we wanted to offer some tips on how to strengthen your home to protect yourself and your loved ones, should the unexpected happen:

• Are you informed? Prepared?
• Has your business made a disaster plan?
• Are key personnel aware of the disaster plan?
• What are the building’s specific needs?

Don’t miss this unique and affordable opportunity to prepare your business for disaster; should it occur. Premier industry networking to follow our “Wisdom & Wine” presentation.
